Technolink Snapshot August 2015

The Technolink Association proudly welcomes
New Supporter

JAKE HARRIMAN

Nuru International: Origins -
Jake Harriman's Fight to End Extreme Poverty

The Technolink Association proudly welcomes New Supporter, Jake Harriman, Founder and CEO of Nuru International, to our community. During his time in combat, US Marine Corps Platoon Commander Jake Harriman spent countless days in extremely poor regions of Southern Iraq doing his best to create lasting change. While fighting the Taliban and Al Qaeda, Jake noticed that these horribly oppressive groups also performed basic development services – providing food, education, and jobs to desperate families that had no other viable alternatives. Frustrated by his own lack of success in helping families in these remote areas, Jake left the military and enrolled in the Stanford Graduate School of Business to found an organization that would provide thousands of families with lasting meaningful choices. In 2008, Jake founded Nuru International.

Fast forward seven years: over 80,000 people in Kenya and Ethiopia have begun lifting themselves out of extreme poverty permanently, thanks to Nuru's programs. Because of his servant leadership and bold ideas, Jake had the opportunity give a speech and introduce President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton at his Presidential Leadership Scholars graduation ceremony. Watch Jake’s speech here.

Jake Harriman will be sharing his insights and journey on creating Nuru International with the Technolink community at the Fall Presidents Club Forum on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel.
